What Is a FOIA Request?

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request allows you to obtain copies of records that the U.S. government may have about your immigration history.

FOIA requests are commonly used to obtain records such as:

• Prior immigration applications or petitions
• Entry and exit records
• Records related to immigration encounters or inspections
• Immigration history maintained by government agencies

Our office assists with preparing and submitting FOIA requests with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) or U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), depending on where your records are most likely maintained.

If you are unsure which agency your FOIA request should be submitted to, please schedule a consultation with our office before booking this service so we can review your situation and assist you with selecting the appropriate agency for your request.

Submitting a FOIA request to the wrong agency may result in delays or no records being found.

How We Help

• Preparing the FOIA request
• Identifying the appropriate agency
• Submitting the request on your behalf

Please note that FOIA response times are determined by the government agency and may take several weeks or months depending on processing times.

This service includes preparation and submission of the FOIA request only and does not include legal analysis of the records once they are received.
